Harwood Middle School update, November 8, 2019

HUMS students, parents and teachers met this past Thursday evening
to  participate in our Student Led Conferences.  Students have been preparing during our Teacher Advisory and Core class times over the past couple of weeks for their opportunity to share some of their school experience with their families.  (Please note our second evening will be held next
Wednesday - November 13 - see instructions below to sign up)

The conferences provided students the opportunity to detail their growth both as a person and
learner while at HUMS.   Students shared examples from their google sites to show their ongoing school work/goals as it relates to both content and HUUSD learning expectations.

The overall focus of the student led conference allowed time for students
present themselves as curious, connected and caring members of our community.

Tony Viola was selected to be a Harwood Middle School representative
at the State house during January and February 2020.     His application
was selected out of the many who applied for these coveted positions.
He will work with state house representatives, senators, and staffers in learning
about the legislative process and all that goes into creating the laws that govern
the State of Vermont.  We look forward to hearing his reports from Montpelier.
Congratulations!

Subject: HUUSD Board Meeting Recap 11/5
Dear members of our six town community,
At our last meeting on November 5, 2019, the Harwood Unified Union School District (HUUSD):
Attorney Ed Adrian offered his legal opinion and answered board members’ questions regarding the board’s rights, responsibilities, and limitations under the law and its Articles of Agreement regarding the district redesign.
Board members shared reflections on the effects of school closure on students, as well as on the broader social and economic fabric of district towns, including possible loss or gain of students and families. Information on the PreK-12 planning work and process can be found here: https://huusd.org/prek-12-bond-plan
Board members discussed the PreK-12 planning questions and answers that were provided in the board packet as well as shared reflections on the administration’s proposal to combine all 7th and 8th graders at CBMS next year (2020-2021), which will be voted on next week.
The Board took action on the one (1) item below:
Approved the following items as part of the consent agenda: Approved: Minutes of 10/23/19; Accepted Vouchers 1092 and 1102, equaling $840,193.17; Approved Aegis Solar Proposal.
